Many people imagine that NLP takes years to understand and learn to use effectively. In fact, you can learn a single technique in a few minutes and then practice and see results. By practice, I mean during your working day and contact you have with other people.

Take for example a situation where you need to stop a bad habit. Habits are actions that we automatically do without thinking and cause us problems – like eating too much chocolate. We just pick up a piece of chocolate and put it in our mouths without any self control. Afterwards the thought enters the mind that it was a bad idea.

Using the “Swish Pattern” technique is easy do and fast. Speed is an element of success with the Swish Pattern anyway. To use a swish pattern simply formulate an image of the action that you would like to eliminate from your habits. Build a strong image where you can see quite clearly how you follow this action – such as reaching for the chocolate, putting it in your mouth and chewing it. This should be very easy with any bad habit since you are very familiar with it.

This is the first image. Just the act of being able to see it clearly in your mind’s eye helps you to become aware of how the action has not been under your control. You are now focused on it and the awareness that focus brings helps you to feel more centred.

Next, develop a new image in your mind. The second image should be a very positive picture of yourself as you avoid the chocolate or which ever habit you are trying to control.

This image is positive and should be very clearly defined. This is your power image, this is your true self being quite content without following the bad habit actions.

Imagine the atmosphere, the feelings and the sounds that you could include when developing the image in your mind. The more defined the image the stronger and therefore more effective it will be.

The Swish PatternTechnique

When the urge to follow a negative action develops in your mind go to the first image. See yourself about to carry out the negative or unwanted action. In the corner of this dominant picture see the second image, waiting to take dominance.

The Action

Now, simply slide the positive action picture into the place of the negative action picture. The negative state then takes its place in the corner. It is seen as a small insignificant image of the action. The main image in your mind now is you taking positive action to continue without being subject to the impulses of the negative  mental state.

If your Building of the image has been done with care and attention you will find that it is effective. Practicing this again and again will make it habit and therefore more powerful. You will experience great results that you can apply to any habitual situation in your life. You are learning to use the power of your imagination to overcome negative and unwanted states that cause you problems.

Using the Mind like a Tool

The mind is full of thoughts. Often we don’t really exert great amounts of energy generating these thoughts. They are generated by our environment and our interaction with other people.

If we become aware of this we can begin to develop powerful states of consciousness that allow us access to deeper states of mind that enhance our daily lives. That’s when we begin to take control of what we think and when we think it. Imagination is more powerful than words. Practice using images in the mind to formulate thoughts and you will discover that you can put yourself into a power-state of mind whenever you deem it necessary.

Words that bounce of the walls of our minds are generally weak and useless unformulated ideas. Often put there through stimuli that came from the outside in.Imagine how much more powerful a state of mind you can achieve when you begin to decide what you think and how you apply it to any situation.

Practicing NLP swish patterns is a great introduction to NLP. You can choose any technique you like and experiment with it. Give it time and do it correctly and you will experience results. It’s only by experiment that you will actually understand the benefits of NLP techniques and their simplicity.

I have this book that just astonishes me. It’s worked for me and it’s changed my life. I don’t understand why I didn’t find it a long time ago.

For me it’s a book full of powerful techniques that have changed the way I view my life.  It holds certain secrets that only come from experience  and experiment. I’m very excited that I finally found it. If you need change in your life, then I suggest you get know about the contents of this book and what it can do for you. let me explain what it is.

Back in the 1970s a group of young people began to experiment with certain techniques that could cause immediate change in the way they acted and the way that other people reacted to their words. These young people were students at a university where they studied psychology and talked and debated with some of the best minds in psychology.

Their studies and experiments were based on language and actions and how both these forms of communication could influence other people. But, the influence exerted couldn’t be perceived by the listener. Thus causing the listener to react and do exactly what the speaker or communicator wanted. They had discovered a new way to influence other people in normal day to day communication and a way to change their own behaviour for the better – or in any way they wished. They gave the name Nuero Linguistic programming

It was tested. The results were astonishing. It really worked. The students realised that they had developed a practical use for psycological theories  that are normally kept in dusty books and are only taken out for discussion and theory. You may ask how does this affect me? Well, you can apply NLP in any situation that you want. You can learn them – I don’t mean going to University and studying for years. I mean when you get your hands on this book you can apply new techniques immediately and you will feel and see the results immediately. I guarantee it.

You can learn to apply techniques that cause changes in your own behaviour and the bahaviour of others immediately. If you don’t believe me, I challenge you to try it.

One of the biggest problems of modern break-throughs in psychology is that those who discovered it are elitist who believe it should only be applied and practiced by psychologists and therapists. A therapist will tell you that it takes years to solve your problems – never a short period of time. He or she makes a good living helping people get to grips with their problems and sometimes those problems will be solved – eventually.

The Big Book of NLP is a book full of practicalities that work when you apply them to your life. You will dscover how you can interact with other people and have more control over the whole situation. You will learn how easy it is to learn and practice techniques that help you in business, in social situations and any aspect of your life that requires effective communication. It is full of the techniques that cover every aspect of daily life. When you are doing business, you may need to close a deal or convince a client to stay with your company. You can influence his thinking with techniques that are in The big Book of NLP. You can profit from its use.

NLP can be applied to any business situation successfully. People have used it and their reports about results are astonishing. Some people feel as if their lives change dramatically and have soled finacial problems because of the new perspective and power that they have in their lives. I use it everyday. Most of the techniques are simple and some which are ery powerful techniques in controlling yourself and other people take a little more practice. The beauty of having to practice is the fun factor behind it. You could sit down and study an NLP technique for twenty minutes. Go out and meet people, anywhere like work or socially and immediately begin to apply the technique. It can be so astonishing when you see the results. People actually react to your commands. I say commands, that may sound a little  heavy but it’s what they are.

We all react to commands from our environment and other people. Other people love to tell us what to do, how to think and suggest ideas that we may not want to hear. It just depends on how wide awake we are as to whether we react to them in a positive or negative way. You can learn to refine these commands so that their effects are much more powerful.

The book contains chapters and chapters of practice material for you to use. Some are simple techniques and some are extended versions of a similar technique that helps you to use it either in a more complex setting or with a group of people. If you learn the simple techniques first you will have faster results and it will develop your confidence in practice. Let me I illustrate.

You may find yourself in a situation with a person who is over aggressive. The guy is spoiling for an argument and is planning to destroy the nice discussion that you were having. Think about it, it happens now and again. You could use a technique that you will find in The Big Book of NLP that shows you how to use particular voice patterns and tones to calm him down. After all, the guy is up tight about nothing much and it’s just his nervous system that has gone haywire. He’s off-loading a days hard work and frustration onto you. By the use of your voice and certain types of pattern you can influence his nervous system to feel what ever you want it to feel. Make the man cool down and relax – you can do it, if you know how.

That alone is pretty powerful stuff and I’m sure you agree with me that it would be a great technique to have. By the way, when you talk to the aggressive person, he won’t be aware of what is happening. It very natural to use and it’s very easy to apply. Remember I said that you could extend this further? well, you can.

The Big Book of NLP will show how to develop your techniques into more complex and more powerful techniques.

The Big Book of NLP doesn’t cost the earth but it’s not free. The investment you make is worth every penny for what you learn from it. I guarantee that when you get the book it will astonish you and it will always be at hand. You will be constantly learning from it. The knowledge in the book is enough for a lifetime and it’s enough for you to be able to develop and understand so that you can apply it to any situation that you can think of.  Ever thought how cool it would be to be able to just get girls or men, just like that? You can.

It will show you how to communicate so that the other person will agree with you and do what you want. Just remember, people only do want they really want to do, so it doesn’t give you the power to have slaves. It does give you the power to find out what others want and to use that to your advantage. Buy it today and you will be astonished at the change in your life. The Big Book of NLP.

One thing that all successful people do is  develop Good Habits. These Habits then become part of daily life and help the automatic process of developing a strong, success oriented Personality.

It takes time to develop good Habits. Be patient and keep trying. Check daily that each Habit you intend to Develop is really helpful and is really what you want.

Sometimes we may think that to Develop a particular habit is a good idea. You must check it, or test it. Sit down with paper and pen and think through what exactly this habit will require from you and how it will affect your life.

It may actually require that you stop doing something else that could also be of use to your progress as a person.

These Habits are good they are the practices of all successful people. Read them and then list them. You can work on them daily and begin to understand how they fit into your life. Then when you practice you will notice the effect that each habit has on your effectiveness during work and play.

1. Wake up every Morning determined to make it a good day. Take a few minutes to look at yourself in the moirror and give yourself a Good Morning self-talk. Self talk is a powerful concept that sets the tone of your mind. It is like putting on your armour before going  into the world to do battle. Tell yourself that you are a good person and that you can achieve anything that you set your mind to. Set a positive tone that will carry you through the day.

Imagine if you told yourself that you are a prat and that you screw up on everything. Would it have an effect on your actions and thought flow? Of course it would. It works in the positive tone much better, it’s just that not many people reward themselves so often- they tend to tell themselves off and punish themseles fo the slightest thing.

Tell yourself how great you are every Morning and enjoy the difference it makes.

2. Be Organised. Do you like working and living in absolute clutter and a mess? I don’t, I know it leads to cluttering up my thoughts as well. If you can learn to Organise yourself and your environment it will lead to more effective activity. You will always know where to find things. You will find that your mind is freed up to think and focus an things that are more important.

Being organised about the days¡ activities and clear in your mind about how you will do something is an energy saver. You will store energy for more important activities than trying to figure out where the hell you put your bag.

Being successful means you must be an organised person. It’s part of the success characteristic.

3. An important Habit of successful people is to always be interested in the world around them. learn to make Study a habit. You don’t have to go back to University or school but you can get your hands on good books that feed your mind with new inf¡ormation about your work and your life. Self study ensures that you are always growing in one way or another. Even if it’s just reading about history it is expanding your knowledge. That’s good for the brain muscles and your sense of well being.

If you don’t have anything to study then try a new language or a new skill that will help you improve your job performance. It enlivens the mind and that is a part of waking up.

4. Be industrious. This has always been good advice from those who have succeeded at what they do. keeping busy and learning to focus on tasks that you have prioritized will cause you to become an effective achiever.  Sitting around thinking about work can often feel like it is necessary when in reality it is a waste of thoughts and energy – thinking requires energy too, you know.

An unused thought is a wasted thought that will never return in its original form. The WOW! factor that happens in our minds should be applied immediately during the working process.

5. Practice being Assertive and Confident. If you don’t learn top be assertive and express Confidence in situations you will always be the quiet one, not being heard and end up developing the habit of just listening and carrying out tasks that other people have decided on. To be assertive in group situations you need to be a decision maker. You can start doing that now – you don’t have to be Boss to be a decision maker. If you develop the habit of asserting yourself with good ideas that you have thought through, you will be seen and heard as a leader type whose ideas are valuable – soon people will begin to look to you and ask you for your opinion.

Being Confident also frees up the mind and gives you a strong sense of well-being.

This Morning I read an interesting and simple post from Leo Babauta. He simply wrote about Habits and how important it is to develop the Habits that support you. To avoid forcing yourself into doing things that cause resistance in your Mind.

A Tiger’s Leap

The Importance of Enjoying the Habit is good advice for all those people out there who believe they must force themselves into an action that basically their mind doesn’t enjoy or even like. Mustering up the Power of a Tiger to make yourself live in a way that is contra to your real beliefs, isn’t going to make you happy.

Zen thoughts and the Zen approach to daily life is the simplest, non-confusing daily path that we can follow.

Self-Discipline can be a great tool to ensure an organised life style. Too much Self Discipline can cause “Burn-Out” in the mind. Good Habits should be enjoyed and they should be things that create quality of life for the individual.

Developing good Habits doesn’t have to be difficult. Just develop the habits that fit into your life and avoid trying to copy someone else’s life.

Giving up bad habits can be difficult but actually acquiring a habit isn’t so difficult. We often develop  them because it offers us an easy way to relieve stress or we think it helps us to be able to do something with more ease.

Smoking is easy to develop. Giving up is hard. We don’t know why we smoke, generally. But, if we take time to think about the reason we started smoking in the first place,we might come across the idea of what “gap” or “void” we were trying to fill. Like stress relief or boredom.

Smoke a Really Good Book

Think of the many things that you could do instead of smoking.Useful actions that you would enjoy and could take the place of smoking. Chewing a sweet doesn’t relieve stress but reading a really interesting book does.

Many people take up jogging to replace smoking or drinking habits. Jogging relieves stress and that’s why people report good results about it making it easier quit.

Jogging is a path of least resistance for many people. It creates health and fitness and has positive results for both mind and body.

Giving up the bad habit of smoking is a good thing but when we do then a void is created that smoking had filled – in a negative way.

If we seek out good habits that we truly enjoy and find motivating to do, then we can follow the advice of Leo Bebauta at Zen Habits and fill those little voids and gaps in our lives with quality thought patterns or good habits.

Right Actions lead to mental states of empowerment such as following the path of least resistance in our lives.

Our Brains are made up of complex stuff that we use to communicate with the world around us. How to use the Brain effectively is always a challenging problem. Imagine if you thought you didn’t need it,you’d need it to think that thought about not needing a Brain that thinks. That thought about not needing a brain would be important for you.Every thought is important to a human being,it helps us to confirm our existence and to communicate with other people.

How do we communicate?

During the 20th Century many fantastic discoveries were made about the Brain and it’s Capabilities. The problem was that the people who discovered these fantastic things, either didn’t feel that normal people should know about it or they themselves were often not in the position to articulate their findings in an understandable way. Have you ever tried to read Freud or Emanuel Kant? Those works are fascinating, mind boggling, often inaccessable writings of great minds that discovered and developed ideas that should have been very useful to the common people. Yet, the common people should accept that their brain wasn’t up to the task of understanding the thought processes of the uncommon minds that discovered useful things about the common mind. The Good News is that we now live in times where we have access to works that have been written and compiled by men and women who have kept their feet firmly on the earths’ surface and their head at the same level as the common people. The result is that we can now access powerful writings that make sense to the overloaded brains of the busy, hard working sentient beings of this Planet. Below are 3 simple ideas that you can take, understand quickly and implement into your daily life. They are solid techniques that are fun to practice and can greatly enhance the quality of your life.

Step 1 Mirroring a Person

Practice the art of Mirroring other people. Mirroring the people you talk to or find in your close environment creates rapport. When you build rapport with other people you strengthen communication with those people. To practice mirroring another person start with simple gestures. Watch how the person speaking to you uses non-verbal language to enhance the meaning of their expressions. Hand gestures are common and you can emulate the same hand gestures and facial expressions in conversations. Be reasonable about it. Avoid being obvious. Notice that if you are sincere and especially if you begin to mirror at the beginning of a conversation, your conversational partner will accept that they are your gestures. Remember that to mirror a person means to reflect their body language accurately. That means that if they raise their right hand to their face and you mirror this, your left hand will be raised. Just like in a mirror. When you mirror successfully the other person will identify with you and be less defensive. Mirroring is fascinating because you will get great results with a simple technique. Body language is complex and can be perceived as being the slightest movement or twitch in a persons body. The slight twitch of an eye means something in conversation. Which way did it move, left or right? Practice makes perfect and that leads to mirroring becoming an automatic response that can pick up the most minute details of language.

Step 2 Look into their Eyes

The eyes are the Windows of the Soul. Study peoples eye movements. Learning to notice where they place their eyes during conversation will help you to accurately anticipate what is about to be said and from where in the Brain the language is coming from. Imagine, You ask a person a question about their past experiences. You expect them to use their memory to recall something. When they think, their eyes should move to the left which is memory recall mode. Whilst they relate that experience to you , observe how their eyes will probably flick to the left quite often and occasionally, they will go right, right is constructing an idea. When this happens it is simply that they are filling in gaps of memory with what they think probably happened in the past. White lies to complete the story. Ask a friend to recall a memory and watch what happens. Then tell the friend what you are doing, namely observing memory recall through eye movement. You would think that he could out-wit you, he can’t because the reflex movements are  so ingrained.

Step 3 Anchoring

To Deepen Rapport while in conversation you can use a technique called “anchoring”. You may find yourself in a satisfying conversation with a business partner or prospect who is beginning to open up to you. To strengthen rapport you could ask them to relate an interesting experience to you about something that is in context with the conversation. While they talk, listen precisly to what they are saying. Observe their body language and watch how it changes as they near the most enjoyable part of what they are telling you. They are experiencing emotional intensification as they speak. At that moment react to them with an invented signal of the hand or face. Make it something that  doesn’t distract attention. You may want to raise your hand with only three fingers extended and the little finger bent into the palm. This helps you remember the position, lay your hand against your chest in a specific position. Do it naturally. You may find it good to practice alone beforehand. Do this exactly at the point when you observe hightened emotional expressions in the speaker. This will act as an Anchor. The speaker has noted it as part of the emotional experience and it is connected with his story, unconsciously. If you then return to your original business chat and during the conversation use the anchor signal when discussing important points or trying to close the deal, you will find that the other person will be more open and willing to agree and may even express glee at signing your contract. This is because the anchor will elicite feelings associated with the enjoyable story they told earlier. You may want to try these techniques. Practice them and then let me know how much success you had. Your comments are most welcome on this site and you may also wish to receive Free updates by using the email form in the top right corner. NLP is a body of Knowledge that has been tried and tested over many years. It is a practical Psychology that can be incorporated into your life and used on a daily basis as an effective method of growth. Healthy Growth.

NLP uses Patterns to make things easier to understand and utilize. One of these Patterns is called the “Swish Pattern”.

You can use the Swish Pattern to overcome bad habits like smoking, addictions and simple unwanted thought processes that you want to eliminate.

The Swish Pattern is probably the most famous and first learned of all the  NLP  Patterns. It’s simple but powerful.

How to Use It

1. Establish which thought process, reaction or habit you would like to work with. Spend a few moments establishing what type of feelings and reaction you experience when this image is present.

Now select an image  or situation that you want to use to replace the negative impact thought process. It should be a positive situation where you can see yourself doing something in a positive light. Take your time to determine which feelings are associated with this image. What type of thoughts do you have when you really associate with this image of a positive self.

It’s important that you become familiar with your real feelings about both images. Begin to view yourself from a distance, as if you are watching yourself in a film. Build it up so that all of your emotions are working with it.

2. Think about what happens just before this negative state kicks-in. Why does it happen. It could be a situation or another person that triggers it.

The best way to do this is to imagine it happening and imagine that you are just being yourself – not the film sequence. First person point of view.

Once you have determined what sets it off or acts as a trigger, you can start to replace that trigger with something more positive. Just the act of finding out the reason why something occurs is a powerful thought in your mind.

3. Still visualizing the negative image, conjure up the positive image now and place it in the corner. Like a second screen within the big picture of the negative image.

4. Now the fun part. Swish the images. That means simply practice quickly exchanging the small positive image for the big negative image. As the positive image of you in a successful situation, in command of life and doing what you want swishes into the large part of the screen, begin to feel how your emotions change with it. They will become more relaxed and positive feelings will surge through your mind and body.

Practice makes perfect so the idea is to develop the swish pattern so that it can happen quickly and smoothly. You may want to think about ways of making the positive image of yourself stronger in all its aspects. Bigger and closer is good. Add sounds to it if appropriate. If speech is a part of the negative then replace that with positive speech patterns.

As the positive image swishes into place allow it to make a swishing or whoosh like sound to enhance its arrival in its dominant place.

It won’t take long to get up to speed. Just practice and if you have problems just work on your image and feelings associated with the whole picture.

Very important; make sure that after each Swish Pattern is practiced, you also clear your mind. Allow other thoughts to come to mind – anything good like what’s on T.V. or something. This helps the Pattern to settle in to your system without any hindrance.

Follow these steps, master it and you will experience a development that you can always use to enhance your personal power as a human being. As you become more practiced you will understand how one person can actually use this NLP Swish Pattern Technique on another person to good effect.

Please leave your comments maybe you would like to let others know Your opinion and experiences about NLP Swish Patterns.
