Motivation and how You can develop it

I’m sure you agree with me that Motivation is always goal connected. Without a goal then we have nothing to be motivated about. Then why do so many people have problems with staying motivated or even developing any motivation at all?

Goal Connected Motivation

Setting goals is a major key point in ensuring that you will be motivated to achieve the results that you desire. If you decide that you want to increase your income by a certain amount per year, then you must make   goal. Just doing this will make you feel motivated but its not enough to keep you motivated. The goal must pass certain tests to be sure that your mind can really accept it as a realistic and achievable goal.

If you decide that you want more money and so you pull a figure out of a hat, the figure, of lets say $4200 a month sounds great for a decent basic income. How will you become motivated and stay motivated to achieve this? Well, number one is knowing how you can actually realise that amount of money. Do you have a job or business that allows you to set income targets and strive for them? If you do, great. If you don’t have that type of job then you know the first step; get a job that offers you the opportunity to make money connected to your productivity. Or, start a business that you always believed you should. The point is that you must have a realistic means to achieve the desired goal. When you have the means then you experience the first part of being motivated – willingness, desire to work, the feeling that it is worth getting out there and doing something about it. The whole thing seems possible.

Need Driven Motivation

If you don’t need something you will experience low motivation in attempting to  get it. The only emotion that would help in such a case would be a belief system that says that it is a worthy cause to follow or that even though you don’t benefit directly from the outcome, somebody worthwhile will. Belief systems are closely related to Self-Control. The believer will always conduct themselves in a manner that ensures an outcome. It can be an exhausting way to live a life because of the strain on natural desires that conflict with the belief.

Belief is essential to developing high motivation. It is much more rewarding to believe whole-heartedly in an idea or cause and experience it as a generator that heightens your desire and motivation. Coupled with belief in the goal and the knowledge that you really do need it, such as money that will allow you to do something that you truly desire to do, specifically defined goal structures are needed to make the goal more manageable. Especially when your goal is long-term or quite difficult but possible to achieve. Long term could be a year or more, $4200 a month isn’t the earth but for some people it takes time to get there. The importance of knowing why you want it is important, the means to achieve it on a regular basis – every month – is essential and a clearly structured plan that you can visualize in your minds eye is imperative if you want to be sure that you don’t run out of gas after the first six weeks. If you can visulize it, then you can get it.

It’s when you have problems developing a plan and not being able to visualize the goal or the structure of a plan that you will discover that you aren’t going anywhere with you goal. Believe it or not, many people have “goals” that are really nothing more than idle wishes because they lack the necessary self-knowledge and know-how to apply themselves to planning properly.

Breaking down the major goal into parts and components will have the immediate effect of allowing your mind to make sense of it. The big goal might be a little daunting at first but broken down it appears to be quite manageable. That’s when you experience more motivation. The type of motivation that shouts out, “I know I can do this!”. It’s the point when things become clearer and therefore less scary. The mind stops recoiling and begins to engage.

An engaged mind is a motivated mind. It is a focused mind and person who has self-belief and is highly motivated to work on their goals everyday until they are achieved.

This is when motivation has become an internal matter. The goal that comes from within the person and is developed, through application, into a belief system through the constant repetition of actions that are designed to reach the goal will be the winning goal. With belief in the goal and clarity of purpose you can be assured that you will stay motivated.

Breaking it Down

1. Being motivated is about clear planning and breaking down of big goals.

2. Breaking down your goals actually contributes to higher motivation over a longer period of time.

3. Specifying your goals in detail increases motivation by clarifying them and making them understandable therefore achievable.

4. Develop belief in your goals; internalise goals and they will eventually become your convictions and beliefs. Nobody can deter a believer.
